⚙️ Setup Phase: Choose a territory or design your own. Then choose to play an AI general or play both sides of the battle. Choose between artillery, tanks, infantry, airplanes, battleships, or barriers. You will only get 16 combat units total to start, and there are limits on how many of each type you can have. 🚧 Blockades are FREE — they do not count against your 16-unit limit. You may place up to 6 blockades on top of your 16 combat units at no cost. To place units on the territory, click the grid squares.
Placement Rules:
• Artillery: Cannot be used in water.
• Aircraft: Can only be placed on open ground or cities.
• Battleships: Can ONLY be placed on river/water (blue) squares.
• Tanks & Infantry: Cannot go into deep water (dark blue grid squares).
Game Phase: To attack, select your unit and then click a valid square or enemy unit (green = move, red = attack). Note: your unit will only attack that position and not move to occupy it. See the Combat Guide for more.
Stealth Units: If playing an AI general, you can double-click up to 4 of your units during setup to make them invisible to the AI. They will appear only after the AI has set its units. Each AI general acts differently — see the AI Guide for more.
Removing Units: Right-click to remove units during setup, or use the "Clear Map" button.
☢️ Nuclear Option: If the battle lasts 10 minutes, your scientists will develop a NUKE. A dialog will appear offering you the choice to use it. The blast destroys every unit inside a 10×10 grid area — the impact zone is chosen randomly and cannot be aimed. It may wipe out your own forces, the enemy's, or both. Warning: if you launch, the enemy will respond with their own nuke on their very next turn instead of moving. Use it only as a last resort — and be ready for the consequences.
☢️✈️ Mini-Nuke Jet (💰 Paid Players Only): Paid players can deploy one Mini-Nuke Jet — a precision nuclear strike aircraft. Place it like any air unit (open ground or cities only). When you select it and attack, it unleashes a 6×6 blast centered on the target square, destroying every unit inside the zone — including your own. The jet is expended after a single strike, so choose your moment carefully. Note: the Mini-Nuke Jet cannot coexist with regular aircraft — you must choose one or the other. Certain AI generals (Kim Jong Un and Putin) may also field their own Mini-Nuke Jet against you in paid games.
⚔️ Campaign Mode: Defeat all 5 AI Generals (Putin, Xi Jinping, Kim Jong Un, Trump, and Zelensky) to complete the Grid War GO! Campaign. Only your first victory against each general counts toward your Campaign Score — so play each one clean. When you defeat your 5th general and save your score, a Campaign Complete screen will appear with your total score and a Campaign Token. Copy that token and paste it into the Grid War GO! Global Leaderboard website to claim your rank among all commanders worldwide.
